ENUII - What's it all about then?

Enuii.com exists to keep my creative juices flowing during periods of time that would otherwise be idly spent. The site has (by chance events) evolved  into one with a somewhat historic feel to it and hopefully records that the world was not 'black and white' 50 years or so ago as depicted on the many images the site contains. The historical part (mostly recent history) gives a feel to how much the world has changed in so few a number of years and reveals to the younger ones amongst us that not all this change has been for the better, especially the social and cultural side of peoples working lives.

The rest of the site is a 'mish mash' of smaller parts. Some, the earlier remains of the original site, more cheesier than others. The cheesy bits still attract a fair proportion of surfers 'key word' searches each day so shall remain as they are until improved at some future date.

Enuii - Why the name?

The name originated by accident when it popped up in the title of a site picked up by a google search (www.google.com). Intrigued by this mystery word I had never come across before I did a search on it and came up with 22 other references, including somebody who died of it.

Reading between the lines I got the impression it was related to boredom, lack of creativity/inspiration etc.

Subsequent checks in English dictionaries revealed no references to this mysterious word so I checked out whether it had been registered as a .com and it hadn't. Bingo a 5 character .com that nobody's registered, YAHOO get it registered.

Anyway I subsequently mentioned the name to a couple of guys at work (Peter & Dave, they're a bit older and more continentally inclined than myself) and guess what the both immediately said (simultaneously) that's 'en-wee' French for bored/boredom. Another YAHOO, its my lucky day a five character French word.

Anyway all good things come down to earth when you talk to your father about something (after all they are older and wiser than you) and you mention the word and he says Spell It. En-wee Dad that's ENUII, dramatic pause, are you sure? I think its spelled ENNUI. What two N's not I's. Lets check it, so into google goes ENNUI and guess what 44,000 hits and most in French. Ah well perhaps the French will spell it correctly one day, perhaps its spelt that way in a French-Canadian dictionary after all they can't speak French or English properly, anyway it's mine and ENNUI.COM has been registered by AN.OTHER bored Frenchman anyway.

So - Up yours Frenchy.
